Addressing the ROOT of the problem

Pratikshya Borah

Embryo formation in higher plants involves the development of rudimentary body forms consisting of an embryonic root, a stem and a limited number of leaves. As the plant matures, an extensive network of root develops comprising of lateral roots in eudicots and adventitious roots in monocots, that enables the plant to increase the surface area from where the plant can utilise the maximum available nutrients. However, very little is known about the developmental mechanisms underlying the control of root branching. This talk will attempt to illuminate some of the factors that influence root branching and development.
